So much Gratitude(2023 Recap)

Greetings beautiful people,

As the Gregorian calendar year of 2023 comes to an end, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your support of Mystic Roots and share some highlights of the year with you.

In March we gathered to bless the land where the Mystic Roots Medicinal Herb Farm and Apothecary will be located. Over 20 of my closest family and friends joined us for a beautiful time on Sapelo Island. It was a reminder of how sacred the land is and how important it is that we hold ritual in the spaces and for the spaces that we intend to develop. We have allowed the land to rest and grow and we've been able to identify some wild medicinals that grow abundantly there, while simultaneously cultivating the gardens at our homestead. We will be breaking ground in 2024.

In April we held our 2nd annual Reggae on the Beach Party. The weather was perfect, the music was oh so sweet and the vibrations was just right. Much appreciation to DJ Ras Imon for blessing this space and for everyone on the ground who made this day magical. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the new year! Save the dates coming soon.

We love holding space for small groups that come to the island to enjoy the islands beauty and serenity and to soak up her history and culture. In June we catered a Blessing Way weekend that was full of sweetness and ritual and sisterhood. It was a joy to be of service to the Momma to be and her sisters.

In June and July we spent time with our HABESHA family, travelling to Atlanta for the Organic Fest and to the mountains of NC for our planning retreat. It's always a fun and enlightening time when earth lovers and farmers come together to break bread. My cousin and the family came back to the states from Ghana for a few months and that made our HABESHA reunion even more special. Deep Gratitude for my HABESHA family!

Our Sacred Earth Retreat - The Divine Femine Edition in August was the highlight of the year for me. To articulate in words the feeling of this gathering is almost impossible. There are so many special moments that stick out in my mind. I am eternally grateful to have shared this sacred space with the sisters who were called to gather. We prayed, we danced, we cried, we communed, we gave reverance, we gave offerings, we honored our Ancestors, we released, and we surrendered together.....and it was good.

In October the Mystic Roots family traveled to John's Island SC for the Gullah Geechee Herb Gathering. As always it was phenomenal. There is nothing like being on Ancestral family land with your peers who have a deep love and reverence for the Earth. I learned so much and came home with a new plant ally. We provided the community with our eclectic plant based cuisine and our hand crafted herbal products featuring wildcrafted and locally grown herbs.

November brought us back to Atlanta for the Harvest Party Weekend where we catered a Farm to Table Dinner and Brunch! This event was curated by my dear brother Ras Kofi of OnDaFarmPros. As always it was wonderful to be in community and to offer our cuisine to our people.

This month we are planting seeds (literally and figuratively) so that we reap a beautiful harvest when the Earth's new year arrives in the Spring!🌿

We have some wonderful offerings to share in this upcoming season so stay tuned.

This year Sapelo Island has been in the news a lot in regards to new zoning laws that could negatively affect the indigenous population. We are facing gentrification and the effects that this system has on the health and psyche of our people. We also realize the importance of collective security, collaboration and economic development. And so we are raising funds to assist with the development of the 7 Sisters District in the Historic Community of Hogg Hummock. If you would like more information and want to read about the past, present and future of Sapelo Island, click the link below. We ask that you donate to our cause and share this campaign with your community. As a collective we can do anything!

Once again deep Gratitude for your love and support of Mystic Roots. Thank you for sowing seeds into our vision and being a part of our community. May this new season bring you joy.
